You may be sitting there thinking boiled eggs and gardening have nothing in common, but we’re about to prove you wrong.

If you’re a plant lover and also enjoy digging into a soft-boiled egg on a Sunday morning, then you’ll be pleased to know that the water used for boiling acts as a healthy drink for your house plants.

Why you ask? Well plants love calcium, and with egg-shells being a breeding ground for calcium, the water ends up containing a huge dose of the healthy mineral, according to Apartment Therapy.

It’s a bit like when you boil vegetables and the vitamins remain in the water.

Providing calcium to your plants is a good way to keep the pH levels in check – a neutral pH is between 6.0 and 6.5 – and gives plants the healthiest environment to flourish.

And while egg water won’t revive a dead plant back to life (let’s be realistic here), it will ensure that your already healthy plant lives a long life.

But before feeding your plants egg water, make sure it’s cooled down to room temperature before pouring.
