WARNING: Spoilers ahead!
The first contestant on The Masked Singer has been revealed – and it’s an international film star.
English actor and former professional footballer Vinnie Jones was revealed as the singer insider the Volcano costume, booted out after a rendition of The Proclaimers classic I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).
Jones, 56, is best known for roles in big films including Gone in 60 Seconds, Snatch and X Men: The Last Stand. Prior to acting he was a defensive midfielder from 1984 to 1999 in various British football teams.
This reveal left judges shocked, having thrown out guesses including Sacha Baron Cohen, Christian Bale and Billy Bob Thornton before volcano was unmasked.
Earlier in the show, the ‘mullet’ contestant provided the season’s first slip-up, his mask falling off when he attempted some onstage showboating.
Here are the judges’ guesses for the other five contestants who performed in the season premiere:
The Mullet sings Village People’s Macho Man. Other clues seem to suggest this one’s some sort of sportsman, but the judges guess actors Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg, surfer Mick Fanning, or former MAFS star Ryan Gallagher.
Pavlova sings Harry Styles’ Watermelon Sugar. The judges take some wild stars at this one: Actresses Melissa George, Isla Fisher, Natalie Portman, and Kiwi singer Lorde.
The Dolly sings Tones and I’s Fly Away. It’s clearly Em Rusciano – many already picked that from the pre-season ads – the judges guess it could be Pink, Layne Beachley, Ronda Rousey or Nicole Scherzinger.
Professor sings Paul Kelly’s Dumb Things. Twitter thinks this one’s singer is Ben Lee but the judges guess former D:Ream front man Brian Cox, Bachelor Matt Agnew, actor and partner to Rose Byrne Bobby Cannavale and Project Host Waleed Aly.
Vampire sings Coolio’s Gangsta’s paradise. To our ears that ultra-high voice sounds like Anastacia, but the judges guess she’s Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams, Emma Wiggle of Bangles singer Susanna Hoffs.
