The day is here – Princess Beatrice is engaged! 

Buckingham Palace have announced the 31-year-old royal is set to wed Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020. 

The property businessman proposed to the Princess of York while holidaying in Italy earlier this month. 

“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” the couple said in a statement.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.

“We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

The royal also took to twitter to say she was “so excited” to announce her engagement to “Edo”. 

The soon-to-be-groom penned his own loving tribute to his fiance, by writing: “You will never be alone my love, my heart is your home. Hand in hand, today, tomorrow and forever. “ 

Interestingly enough, the couple have gone against the grain by having their engagement pictures taken by Princess Bea’s little sister, Eugenie. 

Taking to Instagram, the royal wrote: “Beabea – wow! I’m so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo.

“It’s been a long time coming and you two are meant to be.”

The gorgeous snaps show the happy, loved-up couple beaming at each other. 

Another photograph displayed the gorgeous diamond engagement ring on Princess Beatrice’s finger, which Edoardo made alongside British jewellery designer, Shaun Leane. 

“It’s a fusion of Art Deco, which Eduardo loves, with Victorian elements for Beatrice,” Leane told British Vogue.

“It’s a mixture of both eras and crafted to include personal messages so it’s entirely unique to them,” he added

The Duke and Duchess of York also announced they are “thrilled” by their eldest daughter’s engagement. 

“We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride,” they said in the official announcement.

“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companionship in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”

Sarah Ferguson then went on to post a heartfelt message in celebration of Princess Beatrice’s engagement alongside gorgeous black and white image snapped by photographer Misan Harriman. 

“I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy. I am so proud of this sensational news. Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law,” the emotional caption read. 

“@princesseugenie took the colour photographs as my girls are so close. Beatrice and Edo wanted her to capture this special moment.

“The black and white photographs were taken by Misan Harriman,” she added. 

Edoardo’s parents Nikki Williams-Ellis and Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi said in a statement: “We are truly delighted about Edoardo and Beatrice’s engagement.

“Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life. Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see.

“They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship.”

It is understood the couple shared a friendship for years before a relationship developed. 

Edoardo is a family friend of the Royals, with Prince Andrew, Fergie and Beatrice all attending his late stepdad’s funeral in 2011.

The 35-year-old is the CEO of his own real estate firm, which he began in 2007.

He is also the father to a son, named Wolfie, with ex-fiancée Dara Huang.
