Readers respond: What song would you want to be played at your funeral and why?

When it comes to music at funerals, everyone has different opinions on what they want their final song to be.

Whether it’s an emotional ballad, a moving piece of classical music, or a party anthem for the theatrics, our readers told us what song they would like to send them off.

Here’s what they said. 

Margaret Thea Meek - On the Wings of an Eagle by Russell Morris. I have the most wonderful memory, as a teenager, of travelling to Manly with my friends and while on the ferry, this beautiful song was playing while the sun shone and the breeze played on my face and hair.

I love it as much today as I did all those years ago and the lyrics say it all for me personally.

Hentie Jacobs - So many comes to mind, but now at the age of 72 with all the aches and pains that old ages gives us and we must unwillingly accept, maybe I Want To Break Free by Queen. 

Beverley Asmus - Bridge over Troubled Waters so my boys will think of it when times are tough and I’m not there in person.

Justin Wood - Disco Inferno by the Trammps as the coffin slides away to the flames!

Peta Lowe - Forever Young by Rod Stewart because of the message

Jo Boucher - Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Billy Thorpe. Always touched me when he sang it.

Meg Joisce - Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again by The Angels.

Sharyn Finter -  I don’t want a funeral, I want my friends to party like we did when I was alive to the music I love.

Julia Santos - I would like people to do the chicken dance or the Macarena at my funeral. I won’t care but the guests might as well have fun.

Dianne Bentley - Hallelujah chorus, because I will be there singing it in Heaven.

Heather Maree - Always Look on the Bright Side of Life from Life of Brian. I want to go out on a laugh.

Sue Tomlinson - Another One Bites the Dust. When I said to my granddaughter that it was my choice, she was horrified but I said I just want you all to smile.

Kerri Borg - My funeral is going to be a music festival, I have to many favourites, and you are going to hear them all!
