A teenager has died after being stabbed multiple times at a popular beach in Melbourne.

The 18-year-old was enjoying the warmer weather at St Kilda beach on Sunday when he was attacked.

Police were called to the beach around 7.30 pm following reports of a fight breaking out.

When they arrived, they found the teenager with multiple stab wounds on the beach in the vicinity of Pier Road.

He was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds and died.

The teen is yet to be formally identified.

Police are still investigating the incident and are calling for any witnesses to come forward with any information.

It is believed those allegedly involved in the alleged attack fled the scene before police arrived.
